Reservations for 2014 city banner space begins Nov. 1

Published 12:30 pm Thursday, March 20, 2014

On Friday, Nov. 1, the City of Sequim’s Public Works Department will begin taking applications for the 2014 west end banner reservations.

The reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications must be hand-delivered to 615 N. Fifth Ave. between 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 1. On Nov. 2 and after, applications may be mailed with payment to 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim, WA 98382, or hand-delivered to 615 N. Fifth Ave. with payment.

The application form is available on the city’s website at www.sequimwa.gov; type “Banner” in the search box.

The charge for banner reservation is $162, though officials say the city council will be reviewing fees as part of the budget process and the fee may change. The fee must be paid at the time of registration and will be charged at the 2013 rate until further notice of change.

The city banner structure was built and funded primarily for tourism promotion in the City of Sequim.

Banners that promote “for profit” activities of private enterprises, announcement of regular activities of organizations, political issues, the sale of goods and services, and messages of religious, business and “issues” organizations are not allowed.

The city council recently amended the banner policy. Find that policy (type “Resolution” in the search box) to determine if your banner is allowable.

There is only one banner space. The banner week runs Monday-Sunday. In the event of a Monday holiday, the banner will go up on Tuesday. Some weeks are pre-reserved for city-sponsored events.

Pre-reserved weeks are noted on the banner application form.
