Sequim’s Petra Bernsten picked up two wins and teammate Aleah Chen added another in prep wrestling action last week.
Bernsten pinned Bremerton’s Monica Kaiser with 18 seconds remaining in the third period in a league double dual on May 26.
In the second half of the double dual, Bernsten added a pin of Klahowya’s Phoebe Gordon in just 17 seconds.
Chen also earned a 4-0 victory over Kaiser.
“Petra is so far undefeated and is setting herself up for great things next season when wrestling will have a full postseason,” Sequim coach Chad Cate said.
Bernsten and Chen are leading the team by example, he said.
Meanwhile, Sequim’s boys are wrestling strong but have yet to turn the proverbial corner to start winning the majority of their matches, Cate said.
”This season’s sophomore crew of Brandon Linson, Sam Fitzgerald, Aaron Tolberd and Mirek Skov are seeing a lot of quality opponents and are looking to be a very tough squad next season,” Cate said. “The team is showing consistent improvement every week and is really coming together as a team. Good things are ahead for sure.”
The Wolves are scheduled to wrestle East Jefferson and Klahowya on June 2, and finish the season with another double-dual at home on June 5 against Bainbridge and Central Kitsap.
