Petra Bernsten was named the Olympic League’s girls MVP for the 2020-2021 wrestling season.

Bernsten, a junior, went undefeated in four league matches during the shortened season.

She was the only Sequim grappler named to the all-league team.

Bremerton freshman Lars Michaelson was named the boys’ MVP. Port Angeles had one wrestler — Natalie Johnson in the 110-pound weight class — named to the league list.

Central Kitsap led the league with eight selections, followed by Bremerton (five) and Port Townsend (four).

Fourth at Super State

Bernsten showed she can grapple with the best in the state, winning two of four matches at the WSWA Super State tournament held June 19-20 in Centralia.

Wrestling in the 155-pound weight class, Bernsten dropped her opening match to Port Orchard’s Grace Leota. She rebounded to defeat Frances Porteous of Whatcom Wrestling Academy and Squalicum High, 4-2.

In the consolation semifinals, Bernsten shut out Darrington’s Laura Langer, 5-0 before falling to Jordyn Rabalais of Yelm 4-0 in the consolation final.
