Milestone: Sequim’s Banning graduates from the leadership academy

Tiffany Banning, support services supervisor for the Sequim Police Department, graduated from the Washington City/County Management Association’s Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy (NWWLA) on May 6.

The primary objective of the academy, City of Sequim representatives noted last week, is to prepare more women for leadership roles in local government, as well as: to provide opportunities to enhance skills and competencies and build confidence; provide opportunities to expand professional connections and support network; and provide opportunities for women of diverse backgrounds and experiences to obtain the core skills necessary to move into local government leadership roles.

Banning was one of 35 leaders participating in a 10-month program that provided about 50 hours of instruction.

“The NWWLA was an invaluable experience,” Banning said.

“Through it I developed relationships with amazing women, occupying various positions within a myriad of Washington government agencies, that will continue to nourish my personal and professional growth.

“I gained insight into city and department management that has facilitated immediate process improvement and fostered future project efficiencies. It is an opportunity that I would encourage any woman with promotion aspirations to participate in.”
