Sequim’s girls tennis team finished the regular season on a high note, knocking off rival Port Angeles 5-2 on April 25 in Port Angeles and North Mason 6-1 in Belfair on April 26.
The win gives Sequim a 10-4 record as they head into the postseason this week.
Aganst Port Angeles, SHS ace Kendall Hastings led a singles match sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Liberty Lauer, while Calleigh Thompson topped Waverly Mead 6-0, 6-2 and Tiffany Lam topped Bella Artis 6-3, 6-2.
Hastings improved to 8-2 in singles play this season.
Port Angeles won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, both in three sets: Riders Cindy Liang and Gwyneth Van Blair edged Sequim’s Amara Gonzalez and Dani Herman, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Sarah Hancock and Bridget Weed topped SHS’s Azlynn Judd and Keira Morey 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
But the Wolves were too tough at No. 3 and No. 4 doubles, as Kendall Day and Sydney Thomas-Harris teamed up to top Summer Hirst-Lowe and Kayla Jones 6-1, 6-3 — improving to 8-3 on the season — while Taylor Heyting and Kristine Prorok topped Abby Robinson and Katie Sperr-Crane 6-2, 6-4.
Against North Mason, Thompson, Lam and Payton Smithson each recorded straight set wins.
Gonzalez and Herman 0utlasted North Mason’s Emma Hunt and Ava Oldright 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, in the day’s closest match. Also getting a win, at No. 4 doubles, was Prorok and Carla Munoz — a 6-0, 6-2 win over Isabelle Bailey and Jasmine Esteban.
In singles play, Thompson finishes the regular season with a 10-3 and Lam is 8-5.
Sequim plays at the Olympic League tournament on May 4 and 5, with top singles players and doubles pairs advancing to the West Central District tournament set for May 19-20 at the Kitsap Tennis Club in Bremerton.
