SEQUIM MIDDLE SCHOOL
Each month, teachers and staff at Sequim Middle School nominate one student for “Student of the Month.” The student they nominate exhibits a character trait that the whole school is focusing on for that month. September’s character trait: Commitment. “Commitment means being dedicated to a cause, activity, idea, etc. We exhibit our commitment by showing up, participating, and doing our best every day.”
The school held its first Student of the Month Assembly this week. Each nominated student received a certificate and a pin to wear on their school lanyard.
SEQUIM HIGH SCHOOL
George Rodes reports the Sequim High School Band had a “safe, smooth and very rewarding day/experience” during Husky Band Day, an event that saw about 2,000 prep band students take the field to entertain the halftime crowd at the University of Washington-Tulsa football game on Sept. 9.
“Every student was on time (3 a.m!), respectful, helpful and represented our school and band in a super positive fashion,” Rodes said.
“I couldn’t be more pleased. Our five band parent volunteers were rock stars in helping keep our students safe, organized and moving a lot of equipment long distances between stadium practice, staging area, lunch and performance.
“A big shout out to Tandi and central kitchen staff for providing our kids breakfast, awesome sandwiches for lunch, snacks to keep everyone going. This was vital for our students and makes a huge difference on a very physically demanding day. Thank you!”
Rodes said it was great to see some of the Sequim High band alumni who are now at the University of Washington on scholarship marching in the Husky band and making connections with the current Sequim High students.
“Many of the students were already excitedly talking and planning on how they to be in the Husky band!” he said.
