King’s Way church honored for its hiring practices

King’s Way Foursquare Church in Sequim saw the need for someone to come in to the office and collate welcome packets and ensure they are neatly arrayed in the pews, assemble gift bags for children and teens, shred paper, sanitize nursery toys and other assigned tasks. Church leaders thought this may be a good fit for an individual with a developmental disability and hired Courtney Brown through Pierce, Jones & Associates; a local Employment Provider contracted with Clallam County HHS-DD to provide supported employment services.

Pastor J.R. Proyen states that Brown is a full member of the staff and her work is highly valued. On Aug. 26, Proyen accepted the Clallam County Health & Human Services Business Leadership Advisory Committee (BLAC) award for the church’s commitment to diversity in its hiring practices; particularly in hiring employees with disabilities. This Employer of the Month award is presented to area employers who have one or more individuals with developmental disabilities in their employ. Making the presentation was Lisa Pierson of Pierson Financial Group in Sequim and a member of the BLAC.
