A double-feature from Five Acre School students

Youths bring "How the People Got the Drum" and "Maria Morevna" to P.C. stage

Five Acre School offers a double-header play for children on Friday night (March 27) at the Peninsula College Little Theatre.

At 7 p.m., “How the People Got the Drum” — an Interior Salish story — is performed by kindergarteners, first-graders and second-graders. Come see the Sun and Coyote and other animals devise a plan to help the people express what is in their hearts by helping them create the first drum. The play is Directed by Jane Dominguez and Rosie Sharpe.

At 7:30 p.m., students in grades 3-7 perform a lively Russian Folk Tale, “Maria Morevna.” Complete with sword fighting, princesses, magical flying shape-shifters, a bumbling but lovable hero Ivan, the four winds, an evil wizard who cannot be killed, and his mother — the fierce soul-hunting Baba Yaga — this is a tale for all ages. The play is directed by Rosie Sharpe.

(An additional performance of “Maria Morevna” is set for 12:30 p.m. Friday for school and homeschool groups.)

Both plays are open to the public; admission is by donation. Proceeds go the Five Acre School scholarship and equipment funds.
