Free demonstration set at Blue Whole Gallery
Terry Grasteit will be providing a free demonstration of his style and technique from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St.
Looking to learn how to create colorful, expressive and evocative abstracts from Grasteit, a longtime member of the gallery.
Grasteit brings much of himself into his work as he seeks to engage the viewers to participate as well.
“I try to create a visual expression which invites a viewer to participate in the creative process with me, using their own imagination and reflections,” he said.

Fiddlers set ‘old time’ jam session in Sequim
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association meets for a jam session at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 Fifth Ave..
The event runs through 2 p.m. and will feature “old time” music — a genre of North American folk music played on acoustic instruments, generally centering on a combination of fiddle and plucked string instruments including the guitar, banjo, mandolin, dobros, dulcimers, auto harps and ukuleles.
Community members are welcome to play or just to listen and learn about this traditional style of music.
There is no charge to attend, but donations in support of the association’s youth scholarship program are welcome. Snacks to share are also appreciated.
Buttercup Lane to hit stage at Elks Lodge
The band Buttercup Lane returns to play dance music for couples and free dancers featuring classic rock and roll, blues, country, R&B, swing and other genres from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
Guests are welcome. The cover charge at the Elk’s Sunday dances is $10 for members, $12 for guests.
Buttercup Lane band members include Mike Johnson on electric uke and lead vocals, Diane Johnson on lead vocals and harmony, Rodger Bigelow on lead guitar and vocals, Dave Keyte on electronic wind instrument (EWI) and Bob Rhodes on bass guitar and vocals.
Stand-up, improv, tunes set for PC variety hour
Stand-up comedy, improvisation and old-timey music take the stage, starting at noon on Wednesday, March 13, at Peninsula College’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
Veteran improvisers from Everett Improv, a comedy club that won the “Best Comedy Club” award in the Pacific Northwest, will perform alongside Peninsula College students, while the jug band Dumpster Joe plucks Jazz Age tunes.
Britney Barber — owner, performer, writer, and improv teacher from Everett Improv — will listen to PC students’ comedy skits and act out spin-off scenes. Dumpster Joe, Taylor Moon and their band will play interludes of 1920s and 1930s music accompanied by guitar, harmonica, washtub bass, washboards, fiddles and saxophones.
The Comedy Variety Hour may contain adult content.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
