Carver is the featured artist for quarter at PC

Quileute artist David Jackson is the featured Longhouse Spotlight Artist at Peninsula College for spring quarter.

He will share his work and his experiences with art and community projects during his presentation entitled “New Beginnings for a Healthy Tribe,” at the Stadium Generale at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in PC’s Little Theater. Jackson was the lead carver and worked with Native youth in creating the new totem pole in La Push and his wolf masks are included in the permanent collections in the House of Learning Longhouse.

This event is free and open to the public.

Northwinds Homeschool Band to perform

The award-winning Northwinds Homeschool Band ​​will host a free community concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers St., Port Angeles.

Open to the public, the concert will feature musical selections from jazz to big band to pops. “Five bands within the band” perform.

A reception follows and free will donations appreciated which help to fund the band’s trip to Washington, D.C., in March 2017.

Free jazz concert at PC

Experience some of the finest local jazz around with “Jazz at the PUB” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, in building “J” at Peninsula College. The event is free and open to the public.

The PC Jazz Ensemble features Robbin Eaves on vocals with a 14-piece jazz big band. The performers in this band come from Port Angeles, Sequim, Joyce, Quilcene and Port Townsend. The ensemble is directed by Dr. David P. Jones, head of the music program at Peninsula College.

See art of bonsai

The Dungeness Bonsai Society will host its annual Spring 2016 Exhibition from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, June 10, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, in Sequim.

About 100 of the tiny masterpieces will be on display in the garden clubhouse of Pioneer Park, 387 E. Washington St. Enthusiasts from Port Angeles to Poulsbo will present their work.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be a demonstration of the techniques to create a small bonsai will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. The completed tree will be raffled.
