Art talk focuses on fracking, fiddlers play Saturday, pastel demonstrations set and more.

Art talk on fracking

“Mining Realism, Fracking Abstraction: Digging Deep with Art” is the title of Richard Jesse Watson’s free art talk at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Blue Whole Gallery. A highly acclaimed artist, Watson is the gallery’s guest artist for October. All are welcomed to the event, one of the gallery’s community outreach programs.

Fiddlers plan festive Saturday

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association meets at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. See story in A section of this week’s Gazette.

Mix demonstrates pastels

Artist Showcase member Catherine Mix, of Sequim, will demonstrate her pastel painting at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St., Port Townsend, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.  There will also be an extended exhibit of her work at the Artist Showcase Gallery, Oct. 10-17.  Mix, regionally known for her watercolors as well as her pastels, paints and teaches at the Cutting Garden Art Center in Sequim.

Lamson art on display

Artist Gloria Lamson is known for creating temporary, site-specific art installations and interactions in natural and architectural environments using common manmade or natural materials. In a solo exhibition running through Oct. 23, students and members of the public have a chance to view her creations at Peninsula College’s PUB Gallery of Art located in the Pirate Union Building (1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles).

Lamson will give a lecture in PC’s Little Theater from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, as part of the College’s Studium Generale series. The event is free and open to the public. Her work can be seen at glorialamson.blogspot.com and an archive of selected past work can be seen at www.glorialamson.com.

Sashay to music at PA Library

Musician Eli Rosenblatt and his five-piece band bring a mix of salsa, swing and samba to the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, during the North Olympic Library System’s quarterly Art Blast!

Rosenblatt, who frequently plays for children and families, takes the stage to help celebrate the new Art in the Library exhibit as well as the reopening of the newly renovated Port Angeles children’s area. Virtuoso comes to PA

The Juan de Fuca Foundation presents classical music virtuoso Carlos Nuñez at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Port Angeles High School Auditorium. Tickets are $15-$35; youth 14 and under, $10. Nuñez, a native of Galicia in northwest Spain, is considered one of the greatest artists on the international world/Celtic music scene.

Nuñez has released 10 albums to date with over 1 million sold including several Platinum and Gold CDs. Known as an honorary member of the Chieftains, he has received two Grammys through his work with this group.
