This year Five Acre School combines the theatrics of the circus with boot-scootin’ fun for its fifth annual Beat the Blues Barn Dance.
The Massy Ferguson Band, a rock Americana band from Seattle, headlines the evening portion of the event on Saturday, March 9.
As is the custom, the school’s parent service organization set up two events.
During the daytime from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. attendees of all ages can enjoy a magic show, plate spinners, a stilt walker, juggling, zumba and live music by the Five Acre School Soundwaves, a marimba band. Juggling lessons follow the show.
Soaring above, an aerial artist thrills the crowd dancing to music while hanging from a ribbon.
A bake sale and silent auction benefit the school as do proceeds from fun hats, popcorn and raffle ticket peddlers.
The evening show for adults ages 21 and up begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. with Massy Ferguson headlining and Locos Only opening the music for the night. Local alcoholic beverages will sold by Fathom and League, Port Townsend Breweries and Olympic Cellars Winery. Local organic food will be for sale by Oven Spoonful with an array of choices for all ages.
Both events take place at the Big Barn Farm, 702 Kitchen-Dick Road, with tickets available at the door.
Cash and credit cards will be accepted. Shuttle service and parking is available from King’s Way Foursquare Church, 1023 Kitchen-Dick Road.
Ticket sales assist with students’ tuition and equipment funds at Five Acre School, 515 Lotzgesell Road.
Trip of a lifetime
Five Acre School also is offering the chance to be a fighter pilot and to take a romantic getaway plus a number of other getaways through its benefit raffle.
At 9:30 p.m. during the barn dance, two winners will be drawn for a trip of their choice to a number of places. Winners need not be present to win.
