Foundation gives $243K to Olympic Medical Center

Representatives with the Olympic Medical Center Foundation presented $243,000 to Olympic Medical Center at the hospital commissioner’s meeting on July 20.

The large gift was made possible to events the foundation has staged this year, OMC Foundation representatives said, and will be used to purchase a new state-of-the-art system providing imaging detail necessary for implanting Micra pacemakers, a new technology in the field of cardiac implantable electronic devices.

At a 93 percent smaller size of conventional pacemakers, the Micra is placed directly in the heart, allowing for the device to operate without leads, they said. With the addition of the Micra pacemakers to the OMC Cardiac Rhythm Management Program, patients will no longer have to leave the area to access to the technology.

Bruce Skinner, executive director at the OMC Foundation, said the organization has given more than $1 million during the past year, and is planning to give several more significant donations by the end of the year.

Those interested in making a donation or for more information can call the OMC Foundation office at 360-417-7144, or email to bruce@omhf.org. Donations can be mailed to: OMC Foundation, 1015 Georgiana St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

“We hope that many local people will become a part of our fundraising efforts,” Skinner said.
