Free webinar series spotlights on internet safety, digital literacy

Prevention Works! Presents a free webinar series by Victoria, B.C.-based company and experts in internet safety and digital literacy, The White Hatter. The live broadcasts can be viewed from the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., or online.

Dates/topics include:

• “Internet Safety and Digital Literacy for Parents and Caregivers,” 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. This webinar helps parents to proactively understand the enabling power of technology and mobile communications, but also how to mitigate the unintended consequences of high risk or undesirable online behavior.

• “Gaming Concerns, Balance, Addiction & Opportunities,” 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. This session helps families create healthy gameplay boundaries based upon credible peer-reviewed research, stories, and first-hand examples of the positives and negatives of online gaming. The session will also examine the research surrounding the debate of gaming addiction.

• “Online Porn, Radicalization, Shaming & Disinformation,” 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. This webinar covers the categories of major concern that both parents and youth should be aware of, and how parents can talk about these concerns in an enlightening and not frightening way.
