Local student art exhibit in display at Sequim Civic Center

The High Schools of the Olympic Peninsula Creative Crafts and Arts Exhibit is on display in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., through Friday, April 29.

The gallery is open 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The City Arts Advisory Committee invited high school students across the Olympic Peninsula to submit entries for the exhibit. The committee received 65 entries, and 20 were selected for exhibit inside the civic center.

A digital show of all accepted entries is available for viewing on a screen from outside the Sequim Civic Center.

The top three entries were awarded cash prizes. First place of $200 was awarded to Kaylie Steed, a freshman Sequim High School, for her drawing titled “One Who Has Loved Truly.”

Second place of $150 was awarded to Jakob Miller from the West Sound Tech program at Quilcene High School for his welded piece “Metal Rose.”

Third place of $100 was awarded to Jaxon Taylor, a sophomore at Quilcene High School, for his ceramic “Birdman” vase.

All cash prizes were donated by members of the community.

Honorable mentions went to: Madison McKeown, a Sequim High School senior, for her floral arrangement ,“Skull and Antlers”; Faith Coffey, a sophomore at Quilcene High School, for her charcoal drawing “Chihuahua Dog,” and Jill Adolphsen, a junior at Sequim High School, for her watercolor and ink painting of “Elephant.”
