Milestone: Lab staff at Olympic Medical Center, Jamestown clinics work together

Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis recently honored 11 OMC laboratory employees at a recent board of commissioners meeting in Sequim.

Those recognized were: Olympic Medical lab assistants Russell Jackson, Lesley Welch, KatieRose Needham, Stephanie Winans, Mary Bittick, Pam Cadden, Idalis Larson, along with lab customer service representative Christina Miller and Jamestown Clinic lab assistants Darci Shaw, Donna Hagen and Darcie Welch.

During an extended maintenance closure of the OMC laboratory in the Jamestown Clinic, patients were seen instead at Olympic Medical’s laboratory in Sequim. Lab staff from both sites teamed up to maximize schedules and facility space in order to accommodate patients coming from the Jamestown clinic, OMC representatives said.

“For a physically small lab, staff did a remarkable job minimizing wait times for patients. With the typical 100 patients per day, absorbing an additional 100 patients daily was a very difficult challenge. This team repeatedly went above and beyond all expectations,” OMC chief medical officer Scott Kennedy said.

During six weeks of working together, this team did an impressive job of managing the stresses that come with doubled volumes, by maintaining professionalism and continually providing great care to patients, OMC representatives said.
