Straley in the spotlight for evening reading of prose, poetry

Straley is an award-winning Alaskan author of several books, including “The Big Both Ways” and “Cold Storage, Alaska.” Once a private investigator himself, Straley is best known for his detective fiction, such as “The Woman Who Married a Bear,” which won the Shamus Award in 1993. He was the Writer Laureate of Alaska in 2006. He, along with his wife, Jan Straley, are this year’s Writers in Residence.

Jan Straley, an associate professor of marine biology at the University of Alaska-Southeast, is speaking at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Keegan Hall Room M-125 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Feiro Marine Life Center in Port Angeles; she has published a number of articles on her study of whales.
