‘The Rose-bearer’ comes to Port Angeles

The Metropolitan Opera’s current production of the comic opera “Der Rosenkavalier” (“The Rose-bearer”) will arrive Saturday, April 15, at the Elks Naval Lodge in Port Angeles.

The performance, sung in German with English subtitles, is set for 9 a.m. and will be simulcast live from New York City onto the movie screen in the ballroom at the lodge, 131 E. First St.

Refreshments will be available for opera-goers.

The Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts and Ghostlight Productions are hosting “Der Rosenkavalier” in the latest of the Live at the Met series.

Tickets will be sold at the door and at jffa.org/met.

With music by Richard Strauss, “Der Rosenkavalier” is known for highlighting female voices, with its three protagonist roles created for women. The story is about seduction and young lovers; it was first performed 112 years ago in Dresden, Germany.
