Are you ready to row?
Sequim Bay Yacht Club rowers are prepping a rowing shell for “Experience Rowing,” the free rowing tryouts on Sunday, May 7, as part of Opening Day of boating season events at John Wayne Marina.
Registration for short rides in the club’s stable training shell starts at 7 a.m. in the marina’s north parking lot, near the boat launch and fuel dock gate.
Participants 18 and older can obtain information about the club’s learn-to-row course and practice on an erg (rowing machine) before putting on one of the provided personal flotation devices and climbing in the shell two at a time with two master rowers and a coxswain.
The scullers will steer the shell out of the marina and then invite guests to dip their oars in the water for a short row in Sequim Bay.
Rides are first-come, first-served, with registration open until noon.
Prospective rowers are encouraged to wear close-fitting clothing and closed shoes or water shoes.
