The means to identify and manage aphids will be presented by Master gardeners Peggy Goette, Barbara Heckard and Diane Wheeler at noon Thursday, July 10, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.

This presentation is part of the Green Thumbs Garden Tips brown bag series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Heckard, a retired assistant superintendent of schools from Lebanon, Pa., will describe what aphids are, their life cycle and why they are so plentiful. Wheeler, a retired high school teacher from Phoenix, Ariz., will explain how to tell if you have aphids and the damage they do to garden vegetables and ornamental plants. Goette, who holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, will discuss different methods of controlling aphid damage.

All three Master Gardeners are experienced in growing vegetables and flowers in their own home gardens. The Master Gardener Brown Bag series continues on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Presentations occur from noon-1 p.m. For information, call 417-2279.
