Apply now for FEMA food, shelter funds

Clallam County will receive $54,091 in emergency food and shelter funds for 2009 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The allocation is part of a $200 million congressional appropriation that increased from $153 million in 2008.

Clallam County’s 2009 funding is a significant increase from the $40,281 in 2008 and the $35,785 in 2007. The county’s funding is based on unemployment statistics.

United Way of Clallam County administers the program.

Nonprofit and governmental agencies that can provide emergency food and shelter and comply with federal documentation requirements are encouraged to apply for a portion of the grant.

Applications must be submitted to United Way of Clallam County by 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. The local board will consider requests in February and funding will begin in April.
