This yellow-bricked road had a green tinge to it Saturday night.

Fueled by a generous audience of about 250, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula’s 25th dinner auction on Nov. 9 raised more than $200,000, exceeding event organizers goal of $175,000.

While live and silent auction items brought in plenty of funds, the paddle raising — when community members give without anything in return — raised more than $100,000.

Janet Gray, the clubs’ resource development director, said the windfall would “take off some pressure at the beginning of the first quarter” because the club doesn’t have a key fundraiser set for early 2014.

This year’s auction/dinner theme was “The Wizard of Oz.”

“Everyone said it looked beautiful,” Gray said. “They loved the energy.”

She said the club is still considering themes for next year’s event.

The organization’s next fundraisers are a golf tournament and Campaign for Kids that kick off in spring of next year. The club also hosts the Daddy/Daughter Dance on Valentine’s Day weekend in February.
