Car crash injures two west of Port Angeles

A two-vehicle, head-on crash on Laird Road about five miles west of Port Angeles injured two and shut down part of U.S. Highway 101 for nearly five hours on Jan. 7.

A two-vehicle, head-on crash on Laird Road about five miles west of Port Angeles injured two and shut down part of U.S. Highway 101 for nearly five hours on Jan. 7.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, a 1990 Toyota pickup driven by 26-year-old Rachelle Grasso of Port Angeles crossed the center line and struck a 2001 Nissan four-door car driven by Chandra Johnson, 23, also of Port Angeles.Grasso was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Johnson was taken to Olympic Medical Center for treatment.

No other occupants were in either vehicle.

The collision occurred at about 10:20 a.m. about a quarter mile just east of Laird Road, blocking both lanes near Milepost 243.

Cause of the crash and charges were pending as of late last week.
