• If snow or bad weather conditions exist, the Sequim School District will post a modified schedule and bus route information on its Web site (www.sequim.k12.wa.us) by 6:15 a.m. Information also will be broadcast on local radio stations KONP 1450 AM, KSQM 91.5 FM and KONP 102.1 FM. If you cannot access any of these, contact the district office at 582-3260. You also may find information broadcasted on KIRO 100.7 FM, KUOW 94.9, KPLZ 101.5, KMPS 94.1 or KOMO TV 4, KING 5, KIRO 7 and Q13 FOX. Please drive carefully and watch out for our students on the streets.
• The Sequim Police Department and Sequim Masonic Lodge are sponsoring ID-A-Kid on Friday, Jan. 15, from 10:30 a.m.-noon in the First Teacher Room 4W at the Sequim Community School, 220 W. Alder St. Volunteers from the Sequim Police Department assist parents with starting an ID kit for their children.
Parents receive this new and updated kit that includes video, teeth impressions and fingerprinting. This kit works for several years, since parents can update the information. This information could be crucial for parents to have should their children be involved in an emergency situation.

GREYWOLF
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Greywolf’s "Camp iCan!" begins Feb. 2 and volunteers are needed to help as camp counselors. Camp iCan is designed to help students with assessment and academic skills in vocabulary, math facts and concentration. Camp will be in session from 8-8:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 2-March 26. Volunteers can sign up for as many sessions as they can and all different sorts of talents are needed. • The last Helen Haller tutor training of this school year takes place today Wednesday, Jan. 13, in Betsy Smith’s portable classroom at 3 p.m. This is a change in time from the last training. • The first-graders in Judie Lawson’s class had a wonderful Christmas break. They are busy at work now in January but want to share what they did over the vacation time.
Logan Laxson: My cousin Andrew came over. I got a robot dinosaur and everything on my list. I went to my Grandma and Grandpa’s for dinner. I got to light the candles.
Kenny Chapman: I got some clothes and a super hero’s squad for Christmas. I played my DSI and I went to my Grandma’s and played outside.
Kyle Johnson: I played my DS that I got for Christmas. I went to my Grandma’s after Christmas.
Taig Wiker: I went to SARC and went in the pool. We went home and played the Wii.
Brayden Bean: I went to my cousins and played a lot. I stayed there until nighttime.
Julianna Frease: I went to my Grandma’s and I saw my cousin Ava. I got a DS for Christmas. I saw my mom. I had really fun.
Asia Thomas: I went to my papa and nanas house. I went down a water slide near their house.
Jackson Bush: I got new Wii games. I played them. I got some new DS and played with them. I went to my great grammas.
Grace Gala: I went ski doing in the mountains. I fell asleep on the ski do! My dad went really fast. When we went on the bumps my helmet hit the handle bar. It was fun.
Coral Disinski: I ate some cookies. My grandma and grandpa visited and they opened presents. I got a kitty that moves its paws and makes a noise. It can lick its paw. It is pretend.
Peter Silliman: I played Guess Who, Bop it and Uno with my family. I played with the Nerf sword and gun that I got for Christmas. I also got new shoes!
Zoe Zimmerman: I went to my Grandma’s. I had soup there. I played outside. I left out cookies and milk for Santa. He ate them and drank the milk. I put a cupcake and a reindeer kiss for him.
Sidney Johnston: I went to ice cream shop. I got ice cream called Dashery ice. I went to the Goodwill and Walmart and First China.
Mia Wyant: I went to spend the night at my aunt’s house. My friend and I played with her new toys. They were the Littlest Pet Shops. We went to our friends that had a cute little kitten. We got to pet it but it bit Emma.
Isabel Frutos: I got a DS on Christmas and Soraya gave it to me. I went to my Uncle Russel’s and we got a lot of presents. For breakfast we had chocolate chip pancakes!
Olivia McDonald: I went to my dad’s. The whole McDonald family came. My cousin Summer got a new stick light. It lights up the whole room and the white stuff turns purple.
Caylie Hammond-Neske: I went home and opened my presents. My favorite one was a Tinker Bell art kit. I went to Bryan’s house. I got a hat from him. I also went to my Gramma’s house.
Jacob Nicholson: I was a ring bearer in a wedding. It was fun. I got to fly in an airplane. I got a new snake bbaka gun.
SEQUIM
MIDDLE SCHOOL
• Map Testing – Students currently are participating in the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments in math and reading. This is done online using the computer labs in the library. Teachers receive the student scores immediately. Students will receive their score reports in Wolfpack Advisory in February. It takes about three weeks to assess all students. This assessment gives us mid-year information about student growth in math and reading and helps us make instructional adjustments to meet our school learning goals for each student.
• School Advisory Council – Each school in Sequim School District is required to have a School Advisory Council. I am inviting any parent who would like to join this committee to call 582-3500 or send an e-mail to bjones@sequim.k12.wa.us. The purposes of the SAC are to foster
continuous improvement of the school’s educational program through implementation of the school improvement plan, blend the values and perspectives of community, staff and students in schoolwide decisions, foster effective communications among all stakeholders in a school and provide an effective venue for creative schoolwide planning and problem solving.
There will be four monthly meetings, January through April.

The First Teacher room is open Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. Bring your children to the playroom and meet other families. We also have a helpful parenting library so you can check out books.

HIGH SCHOOL
• Students in this year’s German II and German III classes were asked to give an oral and visual presentation to the class of a destination or topic of their choice. We then voted on the best visual presentations and this year’s winners were Jessica Whitman and Dennis Kirchan for their outstanding presentation of Munich, and Jacob Gilles and Isaac Powell for their colorful and descriptive presentation on Deutsches Bier. German chocolate was enjoyed by the winners!

• I am planning a day of service work for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18) in our native plant garden at the high school. I hope to have about 10-20 students and three to six adults from the community work together to do planting, weeding and mulching. This is part of a national day of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and also is part of the grant that I have for sustainability projects.
