City of Sequim crews preparing for snow

With snowfall in the National Weather Service forecast, crews with the City of Sequim’s Public Works department will be on call throughout the remainder of this week and weekend to clear city streets, if necessary.

During snow storms, city crew concentrates on clearing the main arterial roadways first, city representatives said. Washington Street, Sequim Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue, overpasses and school routes (when schools are in session) are the top priorities, they said.

Residents can view a map of the snow clearing routes on the City of Sequim website at sequimwa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/21042/City-of-Sequim-Snow-Removal-Map?bidId=.

City crews spread magnesium chloride, a liquid de-icing agent, on main arterials and overpasses when temperatures drop below freezing.

There are 54 miles of city-owned roads and alleyways in the City of Sequim, in addition to parking lots and sidewalks; in addition, there are 19 miles of private streets and roadways within the city limits that the city does not clear.

City representatives ask community members to help by clearing snow from the sidewalks that adjoin their homes and businesses.
