Vet to host WAG benefit
Hurricane Ridge Veterinary Hospital, 530-D Fir St., Sequim, will host a benefit for Welfare for Animals from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. There will be refreshments, a Halloween costume contest and silent auction.
All proceeds from the $5 costume contest entry fee will be donated to WAG. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dog Costume, Best Cat Costume, Best Dog/Owner Combo and Best In Show.

Genealogy program cancelled
“Genealogy Basics,” set for 6 p.m. today, Oct. 10, at the Sequim Library has been cancelled because of an emergency in the speaker’s family. The program will be rescheduled in early 2013. Sequim Avenue closed at Bell
South Sequim Avenue at East Bell Street will be closed for 20-30 minutes at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, to allow a concrete pour for new sidewalk ramps. Signs will direct traffic to detours around the area.
Free water seminar set
A free water seminar with Dr. Rick Marschall, followed by the film “Tapped,” will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 18, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at 162 S. Barr Road, Port Angeles. RSVP to 457-1515.
Audubon reports dam impacts
Christopher Tonra, of the Migratory Bird Center of the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, presents a program on American dippers and the impact of dams on salmon migration at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, in Sequim. The free event is sponsored by the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

Ride for free on Oct. 13

Habitat hosts ‘Soiree by the Sea’
Habitat for Humanity hosts its fourth annual “Soiree by the Sea” fundraiser from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive. Proceeds support Habitat’s mission of “building homes, building hope” for working families in need throughout Clallam County.

121st Harvest Dinner scheduled
The 121st annual Harvest Dinner — believed to be the oldest continuing social event in the Dungeness Valley — will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.
The Swiss steak dinner includes potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, coleslaw, rolls, beverages and dessert.
