Donate at September blood drive

The Rotary Clubs of Sequim sponsor a blood drive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Sunland Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim. The drive breaks for lunch

from 1:45-2:30 p.m.

Appointments are available and walk-ins also are welcome. For an appointment, call Kathy Schreiner at 681-3811.

Donors must be 18 or older (16 or 17 with parental permission form), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health.

Bingo is back

Bingo returns to the VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Mondays. All proceeds go toward programs such as cancer, hospital, veteran relief and scholarships for the local high school.

 

 

PFOA garage sale set

Peninsula Friends of Animals will hold its end-of-summer annual garage sale at 223 Secor Road, off River Road on the south side of U.S. Highway 101, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10.

PFOA members also will be at Wild Birds Unlimited from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 3-4, selling their “famous” potholders to celebrate Labor Day weekend.

VFW honors responders on Sept. 11

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760 will be honoring local fire, police and EMTs with a Patriot Day celebration and dinner at

3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at 169 E. Washington St. The event also marks local police ending their journey from New York City with a piece of the World Trade Center.

The event is open to the public and there is no cost for the dinner. Call ahead to reserve a space, at 683-9546.

 

 

Vegan potluck scheduled

The regular monthly meeting of the Vegetarian/Vegan Potluck group will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, in the community service center of the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

Bring a favorite dish, along with the recipe to share with the group.

Mushroom society gathers

The Olympic Peninsula Mycological Society gathers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner, for socializing and mushroom identification.

The business meeting begins at 7 p.m., followed by a demonstration of using mushroom pigment to dye wool. For information, visit olymushroom.org.

 

 

POW/MIA Ceremony set

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760, Sequim, holds a POW/MIA ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the post, 169 E. Washington St. All are invited to attend.

The JROTC from Port Angeles High School will honor the colors for the ceremony.

Calling all singers

The Sequim Community Christmas Chorus invites singers of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels to sing in its 27th season. Music is provided and no auditions are necessary. The chorus, directed by Gary McRoberts, will rehearse at 6:30 p.m. Monday evenings starting Sept. 19 at the Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3-4.

Olympic Bike Adventure planned

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, the City of Port Angeles Recreation Department and the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club are partnering on the eighth annual Olympic Bike Adventure, set for Saturday, Sept. 10.

The fun family ride has three different ride lengths to choose from: 10-, 25- and a 60-mile (metric century) routes. Travel along the Olympic Discovery Trail through valleys and along the shoreline, with a stop at the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim for a wonderful lunch.
