Smith named school board rep
At their June 13 regular meeting, Sequim School Board directors selected sophomore Mollie Smith as their next student representative for the 2011-2012 school year.
Smith replaces Sara Hankins, who graduated Sequim High School this June.
Student representatives advise the board about school activities and student perspectives.
Planning commission cancels meeting
The Clallam County Planning Commission meeting for today, July 6, is cancelled. The Planning Commission will reconvene Wednesday, July 20.
Free boat inspections offered
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members will provide free boat inspections and discuss boating safety from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday-Saturday, July 8-9, at the Walmart parking lot, 3411 E. Kolonels Way, Port Angeles.
Family fun day planned
Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 1024 hosts “a day of family fun” from 9 a.m.-
3 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Native Horsemanship Riding Center, 326 Taylor Cut-off Road, Sequim.
Hot dogs and soda are $2.50 and pony rides are $5.

Deaf Coffee House picnic set
The third annual Deaf Coffee House Picnic is from 9 a.m.-dusk Saturday, July 9, at Carrie Blake Park, 202 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Christian play group performs
Sequim Worship Center, 640 N. Sequim Ave., hosts a performance of “Happenstance Hotel” from Fishnet Theatre, a Bothell-based Christian theater group. Class on Dungeness River set
The Dungeness River Audubon Center presents a six-week class entitled “Ecology of the Dungeness River,” from 9 a.m.-noon Thursdays, July 14-Aug.18. The first session is at the center, with other sessions in the field. The class investigates the geology, plants and animals along the river and how humans have affected the river during the past 150 years. Cost is $50 for river center partners, $75 for others. Fundraiser poker-run planned
American Legion Riders hosts a poker-run fundraising ride Saturday, July 16, to benefit Healthy Families’ domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse prevention programs.

Wood artisans present show
The Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans presents its annual art show and sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Elks Club Sequim Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. Included are carvings, turnings, intarsia, driftwood and chain saw works, many for sale at special show prices. Events include a raffle, a silent auction and woodworking vendors with demonstrations. Items needed for church sale
The Men’s OutReach Endeavor group at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church holds a garage sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at 925 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. Donated items are accepted Mondays, July 18 and July 25. Arrange pickups after July 17 at 681-0946. Electronics, exercise equipment, old luggage without wheels and leftovers from other sales cannot be accepted. Proceeds from the sale go to local charities.

CD dance scheduled
