Flamingo fundraiser
Flocks of bright pink flamingos will soon land on lawns all over town as part of an effort to raise money for the Sequim High School Class of 2025 Safe & Sober Graduation Party.
For over 15 years, the Sequim Education Foundation has helped seniors and their families run this Flamingo Fundraiser to support a drug- and alcohol-free graduation celebration. The party is open to all graduating high school seniors in the Sequim area and features music, contests, food, raffles, giveaways and more—all designed to give students a safe and exciting way to celebrate their big day.
Here’s how it works: If a flock lands in your yard, you’ll find a zipped pouch attached to one of the flamingos with instructions. To have the birds removed, residents are asked to donate $25 — or for $35, you can send the flock to a friend’s lawn and keep the fun going.
All donations are tax-deductible and should be made payable to:

Sequim Bay Yacht Club
Kelp bed restoration, Olympia oyster restoration, derelict fishing gear removal, pigeon guillemot surveys and other projects of the Clallam County Marine Resources Committee are the topics for a complimentary public presentation by Alan Clark at Sequim Bay Yacht Club’s April 9 meeting.
Clark, who will speak at 6 p.m. in the Hendricks Room at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Rd., is currently vice chair of the Northwest Straits Coalition, which provides federal and state funding for the volunteer-staffed Marine Resources Committees in our county and six others: Island, Jefferson, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom.
Established in 1999, the Clallam County MRC (clallamcountymrc.org/projects) combines data-driven science with grassroots involvement by citizens in an effort to promote local solutions that protect and restore local marine resources.
Besides describing current projects and their importance (such as protecting the species that salmon feed on), Clark will outline volunteer and internship opportunities, some short-term and some continuing.
