Discovery Bay now open to all shellfish harvesting

Clallam County’s Department of Health and Human Services- Environmental Health Division has reopened Discovery Bay to shellfish harvesting for all species, county health officials announced on Feb. 6.

The Strait of Juan de Fuca, from Cape Flattery to the Jefferson County Line (including Dungeness Bay) is also open to all species of shellfish harvesting. Sequim Bay is closed to butter and varnish clams only. Ocean beaches are closed to all species (seasonal).

‘End of Life Ready’ event slated for Feb. 24

End of Life Washington volunteers will present a program titled “End of Life Ready” at noon on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

This free, one-hour event will provide resources to plan ahead and reduce anxiety for one of life’s major transitions. Participants will learn about advance directives (including new dementia directives), advice on choosing a healthcare agent, and information on the POLST (Physician’s Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) form.

The event will also include information about Washington’s Death with Dignity law and other end of life options, including Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED).

A question-and-answer period will follow each section, and participants will receive a resource packet after the event.

Local office open to help disabled veterans

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office in the Worksource building, 810 W. Brackett Road, is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.

Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance.

The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary. Masks are required upon entrance.
