Book sale set, Pioneers sought, walking tours continue, Seahawks fans rally and more.

Book sale is Saturday

The Friends of Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library at 630 N. Sequim Ave. Featured this month are diet cookbooks, gardening books, record albums, old sheet music and books on quilting and sewing. Proceeds fund children’s and adult programs at the Sequim Library.

Publisher to talk to Clallam Democrats

Clallam County Democrats will host a presentation by Terry Ward, publisher of the Sequim Gazette, Peninsula Daily News and the Forks Forum, at their first monthly program for 2016 at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Democratic Headquarters, 124A W. First St., Port Angeles. Ward took over the position of publisher in September from former publisher John Brewer. Ward will discuss his goals and plans for the area’s local newspapers and he will take questions from the audience. OMC board of commissioners to discuss strategic plan

The Olympic Medical Center’s board of commissioners meets at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Linkletter Hall at Olympic Memorial Hospital, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles. The agenda includes election of a board president and secretary, a resolution endorsing the Sequim School District Facility Bond and discussion of OMC’s 2016-2018 Strategic Plan. Pioneer nominees sought

The Pioneer Association invites anyone that is eligible for the Grand Pioneer or Honorary Pioneer position to contact Dave Knapman at 477-1493 or Walt Grant at 775-6829. The criteria is: Grand Pioneer: A person born within the Sequim School District currently living in Sequim. Honorary Pioneers are persons who have lived in Sequim for 40 years or more and do not qualify for Grand Pioneer.

School bond walking tours set

Sequim school bond walking tours will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16; Saturday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 6. Each tour begins in the boardroom at 503 N. Sequim Ave., and includes campus sites that would be affected by the bond passage around Sequim High School, the district’s base kitchen and Helen Haller Elementary. Planning commission to elect officers, talk shoreline

’Hawks fans set sights on playoffs, host rally

The Dungeness Bay Sea Hawkers — a local Seahawks fan club — and fellow ’Hawks fans host a rally at noon Saturday, Jan. 9, at Applebee’s, 130 River Road. The Seahawks play at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Minnesota, in the NFL wildcard round.

It’s story time again!

Weekly story times at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., resume Wednesday, Jan. 13. Toddler story time is at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday and is recommended for children of ages 18 months-3 years. Preschool story time is 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday and recommended for children 3 to 5 years old. Baby story time, scheduled every Friday at 2 p.m., begins Jan. 15.

Toddler and preschool story time feature age-appropriate books, music, fingerplays, rhymes and action songs, with a simple craft for children to take home.

Baby story time programs feature action songs, fingerplays and fun nursery rhymes, with time for parents and caregivers to meet and visit following each session.

Climate change seminar set

The Sierra Club North Olympic Group and the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society hosts a presentation of the recently finalized and released North Olympic Peninsula Climate Change Preparedness Plan. The event is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim. This presentation includes an overview of climate change projections, where the North Olympic Peninsula is most vulnerable and a compilation of top climate preparedness strategies developed for the three focus areas of ecosystems, water supplies and critical Infrastructure.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
