Buss pass sales begin

Clallam Transit has begun sales of monthly bus passes and strip tickets at the Port Angeles Gateway Center. Staff will be on hand for these sales from 1-4 p.m. July 30-31 and Aug. 1. Transit officials plan to sell more passes Aug. 27-29 and Sept. 2-4. Clallam Transit accepts only cash and checks; no credit or debit cards are accepted. Night closures planned for Hood Canal bridge

Motorists traveling across the State Route 104 Hood Canal bridge should prepare for potential delays while bridge crews test the bridge’s drawspan and perform maintenance work. Marine traffic also could be affected. From 9 p.m. today, July 30, to 1 a.m. Thursday, July 31, bridge maintenance crews will perform several bridge drawspan openings. Each opening could delay traffic up to one hour.

Stay informed of traffic impacts by signing up for WSDOT’s e-mail alerts, visiting the travel alerts web pages or downloading WSDOT’s mobile app.

Healing clinic set

MCKS Pranic Healing will have a free meditation healing clinic at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Sons of Norway, 131 W. Fifth St., Port Angeles, for ages 16 and older. For more information, see www.pranichealing.com.

County planning commission sets Aug. 6 agenda

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Agenda items include a public hearing regarding the Clallam County Six-Year (2015-2020) Transportation Improvement Program. Call 417-2277.

iPhones, iPads, oh my!

The Strait Macintosh User Group meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Chris Clem will discuss basic operations for iPhones and iPads and show useful tips and tricks that could help you get more use out of your iDevice. The public is welcome. City’s ‘Coffee with the Mayor’ program continues

The City of Sequim “Coffee with the Mayor” program continues in August. Sequim residents may meet informally with Mayor Candace Pratt on Thursdays, Aug. 7 and 21, at 8:30 a.m. at Adagio Bean and Leaf, 981 E. Washington St. The mayor will be at a different published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community.

Class of 1954 sets reunion

The Sequim High School Class of 1954 meets for its 60th reunion Friday through Sunday, Aug. 8-10. The reunion begins at Pat Gordon’s home at 4 p.m. on Aug. 8. On Aug. 9, a dinner is scheduled at 5 p.m. at the Mariners Cafe, 707 W. Washington St. On Aug. 10, a breakfast is scheduled at Mariners Cafe, with a dinner later that day (time to be announced)

Trek to Hurricane Ridge

Sequim Deaf Coffee House is on the road to Hurricane Ridge at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, rain or shine. To carpool, meet at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles. Bring warm clothes/sturdy shoes, money, a camera, a brown bag lunch or buy lunch at the visitor center. Entrance fee is $15 per vehicle or buy an America the Beautiful pass at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center. If you’re 62 and older, the America the Beautiful pass costs $10 for life or free for the Deaf Community.

Party with the dogs!

The Sequim Dog Park marks its seventh “birthday” in conjunction with KSQM’s Pet Day, as part of Pet Lovers Week, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with a party at the dog park in Carrie Blake Park.

There will be vendors, booths, food, raffles and a demonstration at noon of K-9 Chase of the Sequim Police Department. Pets are welcome.

Vegetable growing class set

Peninsula College offers “Fall and Winter Vegetable” course, taught by Anne Burkhardt,  that shows how to start home-grown lettuce and other vegetables, even in December.

Start your own vegetable plants from seeds and take them home at the end of class. The class meets 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Sequim Education Center, 120 W. Spruce St.

Salivating for salmon

The Rotary Club of Sequim will host its 46th annual salmon bake and barbecue from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.

Tickets are $12 for adults for grilled salmon or pulled pork barbecue dinners. Hotdog plates are available for children for $5.

Buy tickets at the event, Rotary ticket booths or at www.sequimsalmonbake.com. Proceeds benefit Sequim children, the Boys & Girls Club, local Sequim charities and Rotary projects.

SARC offers lifeguard classes

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center offers a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class beginning Aug. 22. The class also meets Aug. 23, 24, 30 and 31. Successful participants are certified as lifeguards for two years and will also be certified in CPR, First Aid and AED. The class is open to anyone at least 15 years old.

Cost for the course is $150 plus a $27.50 materials fee. SARC will create a hiring list from successful participants.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
