Sequim Lavender Weekend training set for July 7

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a training session for volunteers and any members of the public that are interested in learning about what’s new for this year’s Sequim Lavender Weekend. The training session will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The session will include information about the farms on tour, transportation options, fee structures, the street fair and community events. For more information, call the chamber at 683-6197.


B&Bs on planning agenda

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The agenda includes a public hearing regarding an ordinance proposal to amend Clallam County Code Title 33 regarding zoning regarding the definition of vacation rentals and bed & breakfasts.

Help beautify Sequim Y

Volunteers are sought to help spruce up the Sequim Y (formerly the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center) at 610 N. Fifth Ave., from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 9.

Participants are asked to bring gloves, rakes, shovels or other yard equipment and to wear long-sleeved shirts and comfortable, closed-toed shoes. Coffee, water and sandwiches will be provided.

Salmon coalition fundraising tourney set at The Cedars

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is hosting a fundraiser golf tournament on Saturday, July 9, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Registration fee is $80 and includes cart, green fees and balls, boxed lunch, prizes and goodie bags. Check-in/registration starts at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The event also includes games, prizes and a raffle, plus a hole-in-one prize of a 2016 Chevy Silverado provided by Ruddell Auto Mall.

All funds raised through the tournament support the coalition’s place-based, restoration and engineering middle school education program across the Olympic Peninsula.

Ice cream social at grange

The Sequim Prairie Grange will have an ice cream social from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 10. Banana splits or sundaes are $5 each. Proceeds will go to benefit the Sequim Prairie Grange Building Fund.

Naturalist to speak

Dr. Fred Sharpe will give a talk entitled “The Olympic Rainshadow: Where Clouds Come to Die” at 7 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way in Dungeness.

The talk is free and open to the public. Sharpe is a naturalist in the classical tradition: he is co-author and illustrator of “Wild Plants of the San Juan Islands,” “Birding in the San Juan Islands” and “Voyaging with the Whales.”


Fundraiser at VFW

VFW Auxiliary Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim, will have a fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 16, featuring a potato buffet for $5. The public is welcome.


Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
