Greywolf Elementary School has earned a Washington Achievement Award, as announced by state education officials last week.

Greywolf was recognized in the category of High Progress for reading and math.

The Washington Achievement Award, issued by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, is based on statewide test scores for the three previous academic years. Schools that qualified for the distinction were among the top 10 percent in improved test scores.

Figures were based on combined reading and math achievement scores. Greywolf Elementary is in Carlsborg and has about 510 students in grades K-5.

“Receiving the Washington Achievement Award for High Progress is exciting for our students and staff,” Greywolf principal Donna Hudson said. “Our efforts as a school community to focus on reading and math have been ongoing.”

“This is a great celebration for the Greywolf Elementary community,” Vince Riccobene, executive director of Teaching and Learning, said. “Under principal Hudson’s leadership in the past four years, Greywolf has demonstrated significant growth in student achievement.”

Hudson said she plans to attend an awards ceremony for 2013 Washington Achievement award-winning schools on April 24 at Timberline High School in Lacey.
