Hurricane Ridge Road Tunnel reopens

Rehabilitation of three tunnels along Olympic National Park’s Hurricane Ridge Road was completed Thursday, Nov. 14.

The project included routine repairs and maintenance to extend the lifespan of the tunnels and provide improved visibility and safer conditions for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Crews repaired and sealed over 7,500 feet of cracks through all three tunnels, installed bicycle-friendly grates and applied a new coat of reflective interior paint to provide improved visibility.

MJ Hughs, based in Vancouver, Wash., was the contractor for the $379,000 project. Hurricane Ridge Road is currently open as conditions and staffing allow.

The winter plowing season begins Nov. 29.

Current road information is available by calling Olympic National Park’s recorded information line at 565-3131.
