Contributor Shirley Lam spotted these (killer) whales near Sequim’s John Wayne Marina early in the morning of Sept. 3.

Lam said she counted six in a pod that swam near the marina.

“One flipped down into the water and gave us a hello greeting with its tail and swam away with a wave of its flipper,” Lam writes.
