Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reported to shots fired Tuesday afternoon, June 11, on O’Brien Road.

A tenant — later confirmed by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and neighbors as Peter Shayne, 39, of Port Angeles — was arrested and that the case has been referred to the Clallam County Prosecutor for charging.

Sgt. Randy Pieper said deputies responded to the scene at about 3 p.m. after receiving a report that a worker near Robinson Road had been threatened by a person in a nearby house. Shayne allegedly threatened the worker by yelling, then went into his house and returned with a pistol. He allegedly fired a shot in the air and as the victim began running away, Shayne allegedly came back out again and fired several more shots.

The worker, who declined to be identified, said that Shayne shot once into the air and another three times toward him.

Upon their arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with Shayne in his residence. After several hours of hailing him, Shayne surrendered and was arrested without incident.

Shayne was booked into the Clallam County Corrections Facility on assault charges. Deputies conducting a search of the residence located several air-powered guns. While some of these guns did have an orange tip to signify that it is not a real firearm, at least one of them did not have this feature and resembled a real weapon, according to sheriff’s office officials.

Property owner Ralph Brown said Shayne has rented from him since March. Brown had been installing a wheelchair ramp for his 99-year old father on Monday and Tuesday without any issues from Shayne until later in the afternoon.

The U.S. Border Patrol assisted on the scene.
