Peninsula College journalism students Eric Trent and Naomi Gish recently were awarded scholarships to attend the Port Townsend Film Festival (Sept. 25-27).

The scholarship was awarded to 16 students throughout the Pacific Northwest who are studying the art of cinema and professional communications.

The award, funded in part by Homer Smith Insurance, included two nights of free lodging at Fort Worden State Park and a Festival Pass valued at $100.

The festival screened more than 80 films from 16 countries this year.

In addition to film access, students met with filmmaker and industry attorney Steve Edmiston on Saturday morning, followed by panel discussions with filmmakers on Saturday and Sunday.
