Maura Rego and Gene Mattson were married on Nov. 27, 1965, in Gustine, Calif. A reception for their 50th wedding anniversary was held Nov. 28 at the Sequim Elks Lodge at 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim.

The Mattsons lived in Fullerton, Calif., until retiring to Sequim in 2003. He worked in aerospace and then as a special officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 2003.

She spent 37 years teaching high school math and as a middle school principal in the Tustin Unified School District.

The Mattsons remain active in their retirement by participating with Sequim Elks and Footprinters. The couple have one daughter, Gini, who is an admiralty attorney in Dallas, Texas.
