Monthly Tsunami warning sirens to broadcast Monday

This is the monthly test of the six All Hazard Alert Broadcast Sirens in Clallam County.

Winchester Chimes will sound for 10 seconds on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Noon.

This is the monthly test of the six All Hazard Alert Broadcast Sirens in Clallam County.  The chimes will be followed by a voice message declaring …  “The following is a test of the siren warning system.  It is only a test.   This is a test of the siren warning system.   If this had been a real emergency you should tune in your radio to  your local radio station or listen to this system for  further instructions.  This was only a test”

These sound tests are run on the first Monday of each month at Noon to verify the system’s capabilities to send a timely warning notification to the coastal communities of Clallam, Jefferson, Pacific, and Grays Harbor Counties.  This is a key component of Clallam County’s Tsunami Ready program.  Currently, the Tsunami AHAB sirens to be tested are positioned in LaPush, Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Lower Elwha, West Port Angeles, Dungeness, and Diamond Point.  Clallam County invites citizens who hear the siren test to call in information regarding the chimes, the voice announcement, and where they were when they heard the test siren.  You can leave your information throughout Monday and Tuesday following the test siren at 417-2525.

The All Hazard Alert Broadcast Sirens are located outside to alert the public who are working or recreating in the area.  NOAA All Weather/Hazard Alert Radios provide the same alert information to folks at the workplace, or at home.   Washington State Emergency Management and NOAA/National Weather Services will be presenting several “Tsunami Preparedness and the NOAA All Hazard Alert Broadcast Radio” workshops at several coastal communities in Clallam County during the week of April 19, 20, and 21, 2010. Check with Clallam County Emergency Management for locations and times.  360- 417-2483, or 417-2525.
