OCS high school will remain open

Olympic Christian School’s high school will stay open, its school board decided Monday night, April 19.

Principal Brian Clark said large private contributions from and the high school’s host site, Independent Bible Church, 116 Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles, created enrollment insurance.

"A lot of people have reacted to not having a Christian high school especially during these hard times," Clark said.

Board members set an enrollment target of 18 students in grades nine-12 by the end of this school year.

Ken Crady, board president, said some cuts were made for next year:

_ One teacher laid off

_ Full-time secretary position becomes part time

_ Janitorial services taken on by students

"We can’t rely on a generous gift each year so we’re going to get out there and get the word out."

For the 2011-2012 school year, the school must have seven to 10 more students, he said.

The high school will remain at Independent Bible Church, although grades 7-8 may move to the administrative and elementary school campus at 43 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles.

More information can be found at www.ocsweb.org or by calling 452-7247 for grades 7-12 or 457-4640 for grades kindergarten-6.
