Olympic Theatre Arts presents Children’s Theatre production of ‘Captain Bree, Courge of the Sea’

Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim will be staging its second all Children's Theatre production with performances of "Captain Bree, Scourge of the Sea," at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim will be staging its second all Children’s Theatre production with performances of “Captain Bree, Scourge of the Sea,” at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

The show is the culmination of a two-week workshop during which the play was auditioned, cast, costumed and rehearsed by the troupe of 20 young thespians.

Directors Lisa Mantchev, Bonne Smith and Danny Willis chose the play because of the broad appeal of the pirate theme to both boys and girls.

“Who doesn’t like a good sword fight at any age?” Smith said.

The Children’s Theatre program at Olympic Theatre Arts offers workshops throughout the year, planned to occur during the school system breaks or after school while school is in session.

“We consider theater to be a team sport,” Willis said. “Our actors with experience help newcomers by setting an example using ensemble focus and collaboration. At the end of the day we hope to see our students leave with a contagious, happy disposition.”

“Captain Bree, Scourge of the Sea” includes a cast of both new and returning students.

“The children have been hard at work since they arrived at the theater,” Mantchev said. “We have first-time actors working alongside experienced drama veterans.”

The production also will feature some special entertainment during intermission when cast members will perform a pirate song and dance in the Gathering Hall.

Festival seating admission will be by donation at the door, which will open one hour before show time.

The show will be presented on the OTA Center’s main stage, at 414 N. Sequim Ave.
