A Sequim woman was struck and killed last Thursday morning while trying to cross U.S. Highway 101 near Carlsborg.

The Washington State Patrol reports Jason Beaudette, 33, of Port Angeles, was driving west in the righthand lane in his 1997 GMC pickup at 9:30 a.m. on June 18 when Karen Wesolowski, 69, of Sequim, was crossing north to south at Mill Road.

Wesolowski was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by the truck.

Trooper Russ Winger said they are awaiting a toxicology report but it’s unlikely drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. Beaudette was not injured in the incident and no charges are expected to be filed, Winger said.

“It will most likely go down as a tragic collision,” he said.

Wesolowski was walking toward her home in Parkwood after riding the bus to take her cat for weekly treatment, Winger said. The cat was uninjured and taken to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.

A portion of westbound Highway 101 was blocked for three-and-a-half hours.
