Peninsula College will celebrate the dedication of Keegan Hall, named in honor of Dr. Thomas Keegan, Emeritus President of Peninsula College, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16.
The dedication will take place on the college campus in Port Angeles. Community members are cordially invited to come and join the festivities.
Keegan Hall, formerly known as the Science and Technology Building (M Building), was constructed in 2007 when Keegan was president of Peninsula College. The building contains a lecture hall, 13 labs, five classrooms, faculty offices and two conference rooms in separate wings, a Science Wing and a Technology Wing.
Keegan served as Peninsula College president from 2001 to Feb. 2, 2012. He is now president of Skagit Valley College.
Speakers at the dedication ceremony include Peninsula College Board of Trustees chairman Mike Glenn, English Emeritus Faculty Dr. Fred Thompson, Peninsula College President Dr. Luke Robins, Lower Elwha Klallam tribal member and scholarship recipient Roger Tinoco-Wheeler, Makah tribal member William Melville, former Board of Trustees member Karen Gates Hildt and former Democratic House Majority Leader Lynn Kessler.
On Jan. 10, 2012, Keegan was honored by the Peninsula College Board of Trustees for his years of exemplary service as president of Peninsula College. By unanimous vote, the board agreed to rename the Science and Technology building, Keegan Hall, in his honor.
Keegan led the college through dramatic enrollment growth, a transformation of the teaching and learning environment, and a $120 million capital construction campaign, which restored or replaced 75 percent of campus facilities, including the construction of the first Longhouse on a community college campus in the nation.
At the time of the board’s recognition, Keegan said, “I am very honored and humbled to be recognized in this manner. My years at Peninsula College have been very rewarding and inspiring for me. I am grateful for this honor and feel very fortunate to have worked with such dedicated and considerate board members, as well as the many wonderful college faculty and staff.”
