Rally in the Alley fills four dumpsters at biannual event

Sequim residents filled four dumpsters on Saturday, Oct. 18 as part of the biannual Rally in the Alley.

Long lines of vehicles led into the City Shop and Carrie Blake Community Park filled with miscellaneous debris, hardware, furniture, building supplies, and more.

The event occurs each October and April for two hours or until dumpsters are full as an ongoing partnership between the City of Sequim, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County, and Olympic Disposal.

This event featured 20 student volunteers with Sequim High School’s Interact Club, and six scouts with Scouting America Troop 90 working alongside city and Habitat staff.

Organizers said some items are handpicked at the events to be sold in Habitat’s stores.

Nico Musso, Interact Club photographer, said Rally in the Alley has two key elements: helping residents dispose of unwanted items, and finding items for Habitat to sell to help others receive affordable housing.

Keylee Disinksi, a Sequim High School senior and member of the Interact Club, helps Gary Butler, a Sequim parks maintenance worker, fill a dumpster for Rally in the Alley in Carrie Blake Community Park. Disinksi said she has helped for two years and enjoys helping the community.
