Reader photos shine in lavender contest

This year’s Sequim Lavender Weekend may be over, but it’s obvious from our Lavender Photo Contest that our love affair with the fragrant purple plant is not.

This year’s Sequim Lavender Weekend may be over, but it’s obvious from our Lavender Photo Contest that our love affair with the fragrant purple plant is not.

With 48 unique entries, virtually all taken at Sequim-area lavender farms, the competition was stiff. But over a week, online voters selected three beautiful images from three talented photographers:

• The first-place winner, “Standing in Awe,” was taken by Gerald Page of Port Angeles. Page’s image of a beautiful little girl dwarfed by rows and rows of lavender won 120 votes. He will receive a gift basket from Graysmarsh Farm and a $25 gift certificate from Purple Haze Lavender.

• Sequim resident Mike Murray’s photo titled “Her Brightness” took second place. The striking image, which shows local artist Renne Brock-Richmond robed in red and standing between rows of purple and white lavender, earned 105 votes. The photo was taken at Purple Haze Lavender.

• Two “sweet sisters” took third place this year. “Lounging in Lavender,” taken by Jennifer Jurgensen of Sequim, stole the hearts of 67 voters. She will receive a lavender reed diffuser from The Lavender Connection.

Congratulations to all our photographers and thanks for all the great submissions!

The Lavender Photo Contest was sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News, Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum.
