to meet tonight
The Sequim High School Choir Boosters Club hosts a board and parent meeting at _7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the choir room at the Sequim Community School auxiliary gymnasium building, 220 W. Alder St.
Meeting topics include a discussion of results of the Garden Decor fundraiser and the garage sale plus discussion of "Rock out with Haywire," the community dance for adults only at the Elks Lodge on March 15.

students named to
WSU honor roll
Twelve Sequim-area students were named to the Washington State University Fall 2007 president’s honor roll, according to the school’s registrar’s office. To be eligible for the honor roll, a full-time student must earn a 3.75 grade-point-average for the semester or have maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
The students are Erik Marcus Bernhoft, Stacia Linette Bibler, Rosalynd Jean Billes, Derrick Jerome Eberle, John Lee Grandbouche, Valerye Frances Huff, Patricia J. Johnson, Marielle Elizabeth Lopes, Krystal Lynn, Elsey Grace Perkins, Leah Raeann Stites and Holly Michelle Waters.
McNulty named to
Wooster’s dean’s list
Caitlin McNulty, a 2006 graduate of Sequim High School, was named to the dean’s list for fall semester at The College of Wooster in Ohio.
To be named to the list, a student must achieve a grade-point-average of 3.5 or better.
Sequim trio earn
spots on U. of Idaho dean’s list
Sequim students Adrianna Creasey, Staci Stratton and Justine Textor were three of 2,168 students named to the University of Idaho’s dean’s list for fall semester 2007.
To achieve this honor, undergraduate students earn a grade-point-average of 3.5 or better on 12 or more graded credits.
College hosts Running Start info meetings
High school students who are considering participating in the Running Start program at Peninsula College have a chance to learn more at informational meetings in Forks (Feb. 27), Port Angeles (Feb. 28) and Port Townsend (March 19). Students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
The Port Angeles meeting begins with an optional campus tour at 6:30 p.m. on the Peninsula College campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. A presentation and panel discussion starts at 7 p.m. in the Pirate Union Building Conference Room, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Topics at all three meetings include the challenges for co-enrolled students (high school and college), strategies for success, how college is different from high school and what parents and families can do to be supportive. Light refreshments will be offered.

Clallam PUD hosts
science contest
For the seventh year, Clallam County students in grades four through 12 are invited to enter the Clallam County Public Utility District "Power for the Future" science competition.
The competition, March 15 at the Coast Guard Station on Ediz Hook in Port Angeles, challenges students to design, build and test catapults to propel a plastic golf ball to hit a designated target. According to a statement sent by the PUD, the purpose of the competition is to inspire students to explore the areas of potential energy management and creative use of recycled materials.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each age group, with the categories being Best Performance, Best Use of Recycled Materials and Best of Show. The projects will be judged by local Coast Guard officers.

opens 2008
scholarships
The Olympic Peninsula International Footprint Association, Chapter 47, offers scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend two- and four-year colleges, particularly those planning to study law enforcement or firefighting.

Scholarships range from $500-$1,000. Application deadline is March 17.

College, garden club
offer science scholarship
Peninsula College is accepting applications for the Port Angeles Garden Club scholarships, for new and continuing students working toward a degree in a field of science related to the environment.
Successful applicants receive a $1,000 award for the 2008-09 academic year.
Applications are available from the scholarship coordinator at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave., or at the Peninsula College Financial Aid Office, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Applications and other information are due by March 28.
First Teacher hosts
day care expert Q&A
First Teacher classroom (Room 4W) at Sequim Community School (220 W. Alder St.) hosts several activities for youths and parents throughout the school year. Events are 10-11:30 a.m.
On Feb. 29, Martha Standley, a day care licensor with the state Department of Early Learning, answers questions such as "How do I pick a day care?" and, "What’s the difference between day care and preschool?"

"puppy" reading time
Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., sets aside an hour of reading time for parents and their preschool children from 10:30-11:30 a.m. each Wednesday.
