As many as two dozen children and grownups gathered Sunday, Dec. 30, to make paper snowflakes for the surviving children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

When school resumed for Sandy Hook, it took place in a new building. Parents and volunteers around the country worked to ensure the students were welcomed back by “a winter wonderland” with the entire school decorated with as many unique snowflakes as possible.

After the get-together, Lynn Bender, below left, and Virginia Johnson, who together organized the project, dropped the Gazette a note, saying, “Participants ranged in age from 11 to 87 with everyone sharing their time, love and encouragement through creating over 125 unique snowflakes. Some were decorated with glitter, fancy stickers, even lavender buds!

“Our thoughts and prayers go with our snowflakes!”
