Soroptimists set fundraising shred event for Saturday

A bit of spring cleaning can help a local organization give much-needed boosts to local residents.

Soroptimist International of Sequim is sponsoring a Spring Cleaning/Post Taxes Shredding Event, set for 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 29, at Kitsap Bank, 1320 W. Washington St.

In an era of identity theft, personal or sensitive materials need to be shredded instead of thrown in the trash or recycled, event organizers note. Shredding is a way to safely get rid of all the paper accumulated during the year.

This service is free, but donations will help Sequim Soroptimists provide women and girls the resources and opportunities to they need to succeed, group representatives note.

To participate take documents to the Kitsap Bank location near Sequim’s west end roundabout; Soroptimist members will direct cars from there.

Soroptimists will move documents from vehicles to the shredding truck, and documents will be shredded on site.

Shredding is limited to 75 pounds per participant — about four paper grocery bags full — and shredding is for paper only, no boxes or computer discs.
