King pleads not guilty in Joyce murder; trial set for January

Carlsborg man pleads guilty to stabbing ex-girlfriend

Deeon Emilio Gonzales, 20, of Carlsborg, pleaded guilty on Nov. 19 in Clallam County Superior Court for stabbing his ex-girlfriend multiple times.

He’ll serve 26 months in jail for assault in the second degree with a deadly weapon, pay $1,300 in court fees unless a judge allows him to serve it via community service, and serve 18 months of community custody.

Gonzales has a mandated no contact order with his ex-girlfriend Britni Gallauher, 18, also of Carlsborg, and their 1 1/2 year-old-daughter through Nov. 18, 2024.

The charge stems from a Sept. 20 incident after Gallauher went to Gonzales’ residence to pick up their daughter. He came outside with their daughter in his arm while holding a knife behind his back and he brought the girl to Gallauher before stabbing her, court documents state.

Sheriff’s deputies report Gallauher fell on her back while holding the girl and Gonzales continued to stab her. She was stabbed five times total.

Gonzales received the heightened sentencing, court documents state, because his daughter was present.

This charge follows four juvenile charges including assault in the third degree after he attacked his brother with a knife.


Johnson guilty of robbery, eluding police

Kenneth Scott Johnson, 35, who eluded police for a few days and took two motor vehicles on Oct. 25 in Sequim pleaded guilty to two counts on Nov. 21.

He’ll serve 129 months for first degree robbery, failure to register as a sex offender and attempting to elude a police vehicle while other counts against him were dropped for the guilty pleas.

His conviction stems from his third failure to register as a sex offender leading Clallam County Sheriff’s Office to issue a bench warrant.

Early on Oct. 25, Johnson was found riding as a passenger in a Subaru within the Sequim city limits before a Sequim Police officer pulled the car over. Johnson took the vehicle once the driver stepped out at a police officer’s request, court documents state, which led him to the intersection of Maple Street and Sequim Avenue where he stopped and took a Mazda Miata at gunpoint with a shotgun.

He continued onto U.S. Highway 101 and eventually was stopped near Discovery Bay.

Previously, Johnson went missing into the woods off Palo Alto Road near Youngquist Road on Oct. 23 following the bench warrant.

Johnson was convicted in 2004 of the rape of a child in the third degree, for failing to register as a sex offender and unlawful possession of a firearm. In 1997, he also was convicted for failing to register for a juvenile conviction of a 1995 child molestation in the first degree charge.

He’ll have a no contact order with the two Sequim men whom he took cars from and pay $1,300 in court fines.


King pleads not guilty

Ari Lee King, 41, of Sequim, pleaded not guilty on Nov. 21 for the alleged second degree murder of Joyce woman Diane Cunningham, 65, on Oct. 6.

A tentative trial date is set for Jan. 5 in Clallam County Superior Court and is expected to go four to five days.

Court documents state King allegedly killed Cunningham in her mobile home by allegedly bludgeoning her to death.

King was found living under a bridge on Nov. 12 with his dog in a remote area of central Oregon less than 20 miles from where Cunningham’s car was recovered in early October.

The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested King and he was transferred to Port Angeles on Nov. 14.

He remains in Clallam County Jail on $1 million bail.
